sampling from a computer???

How would I go about sampling from my computer?? what kind of cables do I use?? Should I go from the headphone jacks in my computer directly into my MPC or should I run it through my mixer board first?? also, what is the sound quality like? Obviously because it's digital it won't sound as good as vinyl and I know it's cheesy to do this but I got a sample I really need to chop and I can't find it anywhere on vinyl or CD so I gotta do it this way. Anyone help would be safe.

You'd be better off converting the sounds to wav in your pc and transfer it to the mpc via cf card. Or you could chop the song in the pc as well and transfer the individual samples.

whats a good, free and easy to use program to chop wav. ro mp3. files???

Do what I do I have a Red and White cord thats has a headohone jack on the other end then just get 1'4 in adapters hook them up the red and white part of that cable then hook it up the MPC in's on the back of the MPC then hook the headphone part in the computer.

if you have any $ to spend you can get a pretty cheaply priced audio interface. Most come w/software bundles or at least trial versions. but thats not why you want it... the interface would become yer audio out, with stereo/mono/ and possibly-midi/digital out right there on the interface. from the interface you could go into yer mixer from yer pc with a much "cleaner" signal. I know mackie makes a very decent and affordable audio interface for around $100 or less. Also w/ the interface you could add another input or two- to yer setup (+ effects/gain/headphone out/mic lines/etc.) but if you go the standard pc head ph. out you only need a---> mono small jack [<] stereo 1/4" jack if yer going left right. if mono= mono small[---]mono 1/4". turn yer computer to the loudest level before clip then allow sound in from the mixer. also you can add lo-fi "fuzz" effect to yer computer sample to simulate vinyl.

I would do it this way, but if you absolute must sample from your computer: a mini headphone jack to dual stereo 1/4" jacks should do it. Plug the mini headphone jack to the speaker/output plug on the back of your computer (it's the green one), and the 1/4" to your mpc.

thanks for the advice guys. What I did was just got a Y-connector 1 1/8 inch to 2 1/4 inch and I ran it into my DJ mixer and to my MPC. It doesn't sound that bad at all. I'll try a bunch of things to get a good sound because I've already chopped up some bass and it doesn't sound too hollow or grainy. appreciated guys.
