removing hard drive

Had the usual problem with the pads so gotta send my mpc 1000 back to akai to be fixed. However, i dont want to send it with the hard drive. Will it corrupt or wipe the data on it if i remove it and put it back in after i get the mpc back from the doctors?
Probably a stupid question but i cant risk loosing whats on it and too much data to back up on cf cards etc.

If you switch the power off and remove the HD, all should be well.
