There is pratically no difference except color and the fact that the Black 1k comes with the newer OS(akai OS that is not JJ's). You can turn a blue MPC 1k into a black mpc 1k b/c they do sale the black case. So either way u can have a red/blue mpc or a all black mpc. Your choice buddy.

p.s. This has been discussed numerous times.

i think what he was suggesting was that the pads on the black may be engineered a little sturdier one due to problems with the older ones.

but i don't think that he said that it was for sure

in terms of performance and build, there is absolutely no difference between the two.

the only reason akai is coming out with black mp's instead of the blue is because the blue mpc's are from the old owners of akai. the black are from the new owners (numark, alesis and crew)

according to nick at vst, the 2nd batch of pads (of which the replacement stock there consists of) were glued better than the first. the black mpcs presumeably have better pads since they're 2nd generation and by then akai new about the problem. although i reckon they're still not perfect. they're built the same way, but the only physical difference is about 4x the glue (or so i gather by my comparison of the 2 i ordered from vst compared to my 1st gen rednblue mpc
