what up yall,

i'm getting a synth coming next week which will be hooked up to the 1000 with midi out A and input 1. the problem is, i wanna add another sound module sometime down the line and the synth has no midi through. Midi out B and input 2 on the MPC1000 is already taken by my audio interface (for tracking my beats into cubase). So how do I add another midi device into the mix?

thanks.

the answer is called MIDI chain. you can add another module to the midi out of your new module. When a synth has only one midi out (no thru) you can set it up to act as OUT (sends the midi data generated by the synth) or as THRU (sends the midi data received from the MPC).
You can set up as many as 32 midi tracks with the MPC. That's a lot to of control already.

ah...so within the synth's settings, i can select the midi out connection to be either a 'THRU' or an 'OUT'? I've tried to read up on more articles about midi chaining since i read this but i seem to always just run into ads for midi interfaces (which I don't think i need since i don't have too much gear).

am i getting this correctly?

thanks for the help.
