when you all say you chop a sample...how yall do it?

aight my idea of choppin sample was find a crazy sample and it "chop" that down to 4 bars... that was it..

but was readin and researchin on here and was inspired to try something else that i never UNDERSTOOD till NOW that i tried it..

i fin a feel like its very invigorating...


long story short i'm have this sample i was gon use as my intro but the song has nothing else to go on(thats aint' been used already) so what im' doing is choppin parts of my sample into little hits cuz its piano stuff and then when it chopped i extract that part i assign it to pad...and so on and so on.. and i hope when i'm done that i can THEN replay the sample HOW i want to in whatever order and make the timing fit my ish...

so my questionS is this....

1. is that the "ONLY" way to do it.. cuz it seem mad time consuming...

2. is it a way to chop the sample in parts automatically somehow maybe and then somehow spread them across the 16 pads... or am i jus crazy?

3. I'ma read the manual again but in laymens terms whats the deal wit the Zoom +/- and changin it from log to linear?

4. i'm havin a hard time "choppin" my sample cuz it jus shows up as ONE FLAT line in the mpc.. i even tried normalize on the mpc and nothing.. i tried to normalize the sample in audacity and then put it in the mpc nothing...again my sample's show up as one big FLAT line.... so it feels like i'm choppin BLIND... the sample is from an mp3 on an oldies cd...


aight main.. thats all for now.. i'm go back and hit up the manual before i have another shot at it on the mpc.. i'm rockin the original blue/red one wit orginal s/w on it jus so yall know...

What os are you using? You can chop auto in os 4.02 and spread it along the pads.

Go into the trim screen and in it select "chop" then use the cursor keys to select to the top left where it says "Slice: 16.0" then select auto (F5) then do it, then hit edit and select "F2". Then when it asks to create new progran select yes..

You can mess with it and see how it works for you..

nah main i'm rockin the red/blue mpc wit the original OS on it...

i mean if thats how its done, then thats how its done it jus me tryin to make sure there isn't a more streamlined process...aka that i'm not doing it the a$$ backwards way, feel me?

plus i was also jus lookin for feedback on what yall thought about how i'm going bout this and see sum of how yall go about in your workflow...

my aim is to learn this beast inside out...
