insufficent memory

I just installed the os 2.1 when i went to load all of my programs it loaded them but i got a message about insufficent memory. do i need to add more memory to my mpc now that i upgraded the os. now this is preventing me from chopping samples .

well...solutions simple really...either uninstall the OS or install a bigger harddrive

you probably had some samples loaded already, maybe from an autoload file or something, and when you tried to load your new samples, you just maxed out. i cant see why a new os would force you to add more memory. os' are pretty small.

see i cut my auto load function off because i didn't want to have to scroll threw the demos every time i try to make a new sequence. I tried to delete the demos off of my internal memory a while back before i installed the os and it told me i had insufficent memory. I have all of my programs saved to a folder when i try to load all of them it loads them but it also gives me the message. I don't know what's wrong but if i uninstall this os i won't be able to slice samples. and i haven't really used alot of memory at all so i should have plenty. do i need to reformat my cf card

Both of the above responses you got are incorrect in that:

A) Akai V2 OS does indeed use more memory to run than V1.

B) More memory is not obtained by buying a hard drive, it is obtained by buying more (wait for it....) *memory*.


The loss of sample memory between V1 and V2 is relatively small, unless of course you don't have the 128 expansion. In that case yes, you might have a problem if your V1 created programs were already approaching the max space available.

I'm assuming we don't have an error happening here -- It's always a good idea to do a factory default reset after a new OS install to avoid any "funniness" of this type.

not that it matters, but where did i say that akai v2 os didnt use more memory? i simply said that it shouldnt take up enough to force you to buy more wait for it... memory.

Apparently, it does. I believe I've seen this prob come up on here before around the time V2 first dropped. This is esp. true with the new editing functions as you've got to have some extra space to store/process all those sliced wav files the thing generates.

if thats true that sucks. i can understand with the editing because you will be creating new samples, but still, to burn up that much memory doesnt make sense. i guess the only option for the original poster would be to grab some ram.

Just the price of more functionality really. You should notice that upon installing V2 that your total available sample time in RAM has decreased slightly. This BTW has nothing to do with the actual size of the OS file which is stored on the internal flash ROM, not the RAM. V2 just partitions the RAM differently to accommodate the additional functions.
