newbie with a quick and maybe silly question....

So I'm new here to the MPC but have worked up to starter mode so to speak with this unit. My question...
I an create beats and so on, but within my loop say I have a kick-snare loop (2 or 4 bars). I hit say the wind chime pad and that repeats on all beats, not just once at the top or end of a bar...am I making sense.
I only want it, or other desired pad to play once during the loop.
Even when I increase my bars it continues throughout. I also can't figure out how to go into parameters to chop it down to sound once no matter how long my loop, or song, or sequence is.
Am I a total idiot here? sorry...first timer please advise.

Uhh... not really.

But I can tell you this -- when you strike a pad, you should only hear it's assigned sample once for every strike, unless you are holding down the NOTE REPEAT button. Otherwise it's a malfunction. I seem to remember one of the OS versions having a problem with runaway note repeats that would happen even if the button was left untouched, but I can't tell if that's your problem 'cause like I said, your post doesn't make much sense.

Once it's recorded it plays at the point struck through out the loop.
Guess what I'm saying is I should increase my bars or measures so it only plays once where I want it to and to not repeat itself whatever the length of the sequence or bars....
I'm trying to think of a better way to explain, but I thank you for your view and post..I will continue with the manual. Maybe I'm missing some terminology understanding.

I think you are confused about how the MPC is designed to construct songs. When you set your bars, that is only setting the amount of bars for the sequence you are currently working on. While you are playing back that sequence, it is going to loop just those 2 or 4 or 8 bars that you set in the bars section.

A sequence is just a small section of a song.

After you have made a bunch of sequences, you can string them together in SONG MODE to create the full song.

If you only want your wind chime to come in every now and then, then make one sequence with it, and one without, then in SONG MODE, arrange the sequences so that the sequence with the wind chime only plays when you want the wind chime to come in.

Or... you can make your sequence the amount of bars that you want the whole song to be, and build your song like that, but that might be a little more tedious for you. Sequences are really supposed to be only a small section of the song, that way, it is easier to arrange the song, or re-arrange the song later.
