New os, new hard drive, how can I tell if the're working?

I don't know how to check if it's recognizing my hard drive or if it accaepted the new OS. HELP!

hard drive: go to the load screen and jog the wheel through internal, card and hard drive

os: when you first power your mpc up, it will show you which version of software you have and the amount of ram installed.
