Guys I've kind of got a problem: comparing load times of track length stereo samples between my mpc1000 and my associate's mpc1000 (both BK models, both recently purchased), both upgraded with the identical Kingston 256mb chip, is revealing some BS differences.
Basically, no matter what cards we test with, his MPC loads things THREE TIMES FASTER than mine. This is not a big deal on single hit percussion, but I'm trying to run some full length backing tracks out of the thing to avoid having to bring a laptop around and having the thing locked up to load for close to a minute and a half is NOT acceptable. Especially when he can load the same thing in under 30s.
So, here's the deal, I've already swapped out the MPC once with Guitar Center and I'm kind of on my last days of return/exchange. I am *NOT* going to GC on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I am not leaving my house if I can help it, but I definitely don't want to be up in that madhouse then. I know that there may be zero new MPC1000s in town to swap with because I had to go through three GCs to find the one I have now:
could you somebody else out there please do some loading timing tests for me, hopefully tonight, just as a sanity check? Here's the data I have tonight.
3 minutes stereo (~32mb)
from Akai's included (garbage) card. 4:13 vs 1:23
3.0482 x faster on his
5 minutes stereo (~50.4mb)
from 3rd party large format, high speed cards
1:12 vs :26
2.76 x faster on his (my CF card rated slightly higher)
BUT the strange part is this ->
:36 to load 1minute (10.1mb stereo) off the included card with RAM upgrade removed.
:07 go load 1min off 3rd party highspeed with RAM upgrade removed.

So suddenly my last test before packing it up shows that the thing can load 10mb in 7 seconds. The inconsistency is too much to just flat out ignore, but honestly I trust that Kingston does test their RAM before sending it out and once the samples are loaded, I haven't had any trouble playing them all the way through.
Could I PLEASE get some results from you folks about the time it takes to load 5 and 3 minute stereo samples off your CFs? ALSO, you guys with hard drives is the difference in load speed so spectacularly good that I should just put up with this and get a HD asap?
