using all 16 midi channels on MPC 1000

I have the Korg Triton and MPC 1000 Hooked up midi to Cubase SX3 the Korg i can use all 16 midi channels with different instruments on different tracks and its fine but on the MPC if i use a drum kit on midi ch 1 and then go to record on ch 2 a different drum kit, When it play back both channel 1 and 2 plays what i tapped out but in the same drum kit. How do i get the MPC 1000 to read the different midi channels so i can use all 16 if needed. Thanks i really need some help on this one!!!!!!!!

in MAIN mode, set your tracks from DRUM to MIDI (down left in the screen).
Then in the down right part of the screen select the MIDI channel you want for the selected track.
Good news: you have 32 midi tracks. That's 16 for each MIDI OUT (A and B) at the back of the unit. They are numbered, without surprise, from 1A to 16A, then from 1B to 16B.

another little tip is that your sound module (the korg or whatever) needs to be set up for correct 'multitimbral mode', where you assign channels to different sounds, usually called performance mode, or combi, or something.

ok, but the 1A-16A channels only change the different channels in one vst instrument.

when i select a new channel in cubase where i use another vst instrument, the MPC plays all i recordet before also with the new vst instrument ....

so i can use 16 channels for one instrument in different channels in cubase, but iwould like to have different instruments on different channels, i play the vst instruments with the mpc and a edirol pcr 80 midi keyboard, at the moment i do not sync the mpc with my cubase (sx 3), so i do not sequence with my pc, i use the mpc as sequencer...... but can not use different instruments in cubase, hmmm

so the question is, how do i assign cubase midi channel 1 to mpc track1, and cubase midi channel 2 to mpc track2, cubase midi channel 3 to mpc track 3 ..... or how do i realise using different instruments?

i would say that you just have to mess with your VST instruments, so that they are only set to receive on their respective channels.

I'm tryin to tap out my beat from the triton and MPC midi into cubase with out recording into to the triton or the MPC with each instrument on its own channel in CUBASE. The triton works fine but MPC won't let me do it

i think the mpc can trigger play back on 32 diferent channels at any one time, but it can only recieve on one. This is the active track recive chanel.The rest is pure note numbers withing that midi track.

This is incorrect: the MPC will normally receive MIDI data regardless of channel. (pg 47 of the manual). You can make it receive on only one channel by setting ACTIVE channel to X in stead of ALL....

So far it sounds like the VST instruments are not set up properly in Cubase to receive different channels. The idea is to set the channel on the VST instrument and then change to that on the MPC. When you are ready to record a different instrument, you need to create a new track on the MPC to store the data for the new channel.....

If you just change the channel then your data will be sent to the new VST instrument....

im a rookie at this but... I will see if i can help, I had somewhat of a similiar prob with my setup...(MPC1K, YamahaRS7000, R49, Cubase)... Basically you have to make sure that all the channels and tracks are the same... if you are on track 1 on the MPC it must be set to midi 1a, then u must be on track 1 in Cubase, track 1 on whatever else inst you are using, and midi channel 1 on your controller.... hope it this helps, it did for me, if anyone knows of a better way...help me out a bit
