So im new here and would appreciate anyones help. I just got my mpc1000 from eBay today, no CF card included. I go buy a 2 gig one and everytime i put it in, the screen goes blank. I cannot get the screen to comeback by taking out the card, only getting the screen to show by turning the unit off then back on.

I notice that when i hold down the Window button on restart, with the CF card in, "MPC 1000 Bootblock v. 1.03" pops up for a split second. Does anybody know what i should do?
I anxious to bang away on this thing..

Does the CF card have the OS on it?

No, should it? I tried putting the latest OS on there, I must have done something wrong..what are the steps for that?

Doesn't anybody know what is going on with his MP? Putting a CF card in shouldn't do anything to the screen...

The steps for loading a OS are on the AKAI web site. Have you thought about a hard drive? I hardly even keep CFs anymore...

On your question though... have you tried a different CF?

Trying a different card is a good suggestion. Also try shining some light in the CF slot to see if any of the pins are bent -- not an unheard of problem with "ebay specials". The screen could be going blank due to a short circuit.

I think somebody else posted something about a dislodged internal CF drive connector, but in that case it probably shouldn't make a difference if the card is inserted or not.

I tried a different CF card and still that problem. I called Akai today and they told me its a bad CF slot. Thanks eBay. The seller said it works like new, I am gonna try to get it fixed and hope I can get SOME of my dough back from the seller for expenses.

These defective CF readers are getting out of hand.
I've had this problem before.
Be careful when trying to get a repair or a "replacement unit".
Better off dealing with VST for warranty issues.

I've had 'Boot block' come up on the screen before, it was when there was a memory erase error during updating the JJOS. All i needed to do was put a valid OS file (only) on the CF card, and put the card in the MPC, turning it on, the MPC loaded the new OS and everything was fine after that.

@Rambo The Impeccable: it sounds like the previous owner of your MPC had this problem, didn't know how to fix it, and sold it as working.
