how many midi devices can the 1000 take?

well i know it has to midi ins and outs but is there anyway i can increase that? and can you control other midi devices from the 1000?

It can control the same number as any other sequencer with 2 midi outs.

The midi spec allows for chaining 5 devices on a midi thru (that gives you ten). I ran 14 for many years off two midi outs. We ran 38 devices off an MPC2000XL with a midi port duplicator as a test.

Yes, that's exactly what MIDI does...It sends either out or in, performace information. The pads on the MPC correlate to a chromatic key on a keyboard for example, and you can activate it by sending MIDI information out to that synth, or module or whatever. You can also trigger samples from within the MPC from outboard gear. That's why we have MIDI in and MIDI out.
