It can control the same number as any other sequencer with 2 midi outs.

The midi spec allows for chaining 5 devices on a midi thru (that gives you ten). I ran 14 for many years off two midi outs. We ran 38 devices off an MPC2000XL with a midi port duplicator as a test.

what is a midi spec.....? im still new to all this.....and can the mpc 1000 control other midi devices such as sound modules?

Yes, that's exactly what MIDI does...It sends either out or in, performace information. The pads on the MPC correlate to a chromatic key on a keyboard for example, and you can activate it by sending MIDI information out to that synth, or module or whatever. You can also trigger samples from within the MPC from outboard gear. That's why we have MIDI in and MIDI out.
