Is it only possible to have 2 loaded FX at a time? I love this feature but only having 2 really limits things. Ive tried to simply change the FX1 or FX2, but it changes whatever youve done on past tracks.

Yep, that's about it. Even if you could run more than that it would most certainly slow the machine to a crawl since FX are always very processing intensive.

Options: resample with successive layers of new FX, or get an external FX engine, pref. one you can midi sync -- one of the newer Kaoss pads works nicely -- those internal MPC effects aren't anything great to begin with anyway.

The SP404 solved my effects issues....

By droan24 Tue Dec 26, 2006 7:41 pm
when you say the 404 worked well. do you mean you used the 404 as an alternative effects unit to dirty up your drums and what not. ive heard a lot of people run the finished drum breaks/loops through a 404 or 303 to add more effects. ive thought about doing this with my friends 303 but havents heard much about it. If someone has any input on this subject that would be awesome-

I know what ya need: Tweakalizer DFX 69. Realtime ScratchPad, Bro! HP/LP/BP Filter! Flanger + other LFO-controlled effects !
It spices up the boring static MPC breakbeats. I know. Is it worth 100 bux for you? For me... YES.

If it had midi input clock sync I'd be sold.

But it don't.

Looks good for DJ use...

I thought I responded to this yesterday, but I don't see my reply so here goes.....Yes to all of the above. The 404 has 29 effects, and they are all very usable.....You can either run the 404 through your mixer's return and sends/aux ins....or use it to add effects to the signal your sampling on the way into your MPC( or what ever you use to sample). It also has a midi input so you control loops and bpm sync effects via the MPC's sequncer, and it's a good little sketch pad and it's battery operated so it goes wherever.... The before mentioned Kaos pad is also a good choice, but no pattern sequencer, and limited sample time...but it does have a decent amount of synth sounds in it though.

I should note that I was referring to the Kaoss pad models 2 and 3. The 3 has significantly expanded sampling capabilities over the 2.

I wasn't downing the Kaoss pad........can the kaoss 2 and 3 hold up to 1gig of sample memory?

kaoss pad and sp404 are both dope machines, very different but i like em both. not as familiar with the former thouh.

my advice is to avoid using the mpc effects for anything more than referenece. you can use the compressor and eq, but before you track out, take em off and use a better effect in your DAW.

Oh I didn't think you were downing it.. just thought I should clarify what I was actually talking about and avoid confusion with the KP1. As far as sample memory, I'm aware that the 2 doesn't hold much, so the answer is a definite no on that one. The 3 is a little harder to pin down because of the way Korg specifies stuff (or doesn't). It does have SD storage and USB connectivity so it must hold something. I'm still trying to understand exactly how the 3 is supposed to work with samples and I have no familiarity with the SP 404 so I can't really give you a full-on comparison. I was really thinking more in terms of straight-on FX boxes when I brought up the Korg and wasn't really looking much at the phrase sampling end of it. I'd be interested if you can suss anything out of the KP3 manual on the Korg site, thou.

I have just ordered a kp3, havent recieved it yet, but have been rubbing my hands together with glee about how its going to integrate with my mp, and my setup ingeneral. and reading the manual pretty heavily. avauialabl here http://www.korg.co.uk/downloads/kp3/sup ... M_EFG1.pdf

re, the sample capabilities, From the kp3 manual p. 19:

it supports up to 2gb sd cards, each of which can hold up to 99 .wav or .aif files (whose file name must be a two digit number followed by the file extension) and 99 of something the manual just calls "sample data" - its either .snd (but i expect then they'd just say so), or perhaps a dedicated file type; could this be .kp3 ??? aaaaaaanway, the card also holds some info about fx and midi program setup and stuff.

As to how much samples it can holding while youre playing. from what i gather 4 at a time is the max (one per pad), although you always haves the option to resample, so you could live resample 3 samples onto one pad, then you'd have more space for other ones.

I imagine you have to load up each 4 samples as you go, which would be a headache in a live set scenarion, but by all accounts the kp3 is a killer maschine in combonation witht he mpc1k.

peace and happy cookin

checkit - i'm not all about checking the dates on this thing. i looked over on the last few posts i made and realised most of them are several years old. its because for two reasons - 1 i work in my job (not the mpc - htat's just the dream...) with ancient texts and wisdom [if it was true once it always is] and 2 i like to search for interesting threads on the forum, i like it and it helping me learner.

mainly though, now im afraids nones going to read my excellent comments ; ). while you're here, may as well throw in your 2cents about the ol kp3, yeah?

peace al
