whats the point of using the rackmount sampler by asr-10 series? what does it do?

looping modes, layers, patch select buttons, dp4 effects, that special 'ensoniq sound', the onboard sequencer (very easy to use), did i mention the sound?
it might not be up to todays standards, but at one time it was the top sampler available to the consumer market. i remember at one point kids like you excited about their asr-10 and their mpc 2000xl...
hardware was all there was back then. it had to be deep!
