Heey everyone,

How do you detect the speed of a sample?
And do you record the drums first and then the sample or the other way around? Just trying to get some tips!

You know what homie...after spending a bit of time trying to figure out the BPM by ear, I finally found out the genius behind the "Tap Tempo/Note Repeat" button.

If you just record the sample and then manually tap the tap tempo button (in time with the sample you just recorded), the MPC should match the sample pretty close to the true BPM. I usually end up tweaking the BPM just a little bit after the MPC generates it, but that's your deal homie.

Hope this helps, good luck.

yep^^ this is a tricky one to master... I still struggle with it... but I've found ways around samples hard to bpm match... It called chopping...

1. Loop the sample as perfect as you can in the trim function.

2. Go to the slice function

3. (assuming there are drums in the sample) the slices should be pretty even, I've chopped up to sixteen... used 8 pieces... but most of the time I'm safe with four... Four equal chops of the sample (if looped correctly)

4. I extract each chop (NOTE: converting the slices into a program changes the sound into Mono... (booo!!) so extract them or use the JJos to keep them stereo. Just create a program and assign the samples...
play with the mute group parameters, pitch and note on/one shot too... they can help with play back

I think this gives you more control of the sample instead of trying to spend hours try to link a loop over a drum beat... you could flip the pieces around if you wanted or keep it the same... but don't be afraid to chop it up and play it.

I have been trying to do this for the firt time for the past few days with no luck.... That Tap/Tempo button is tricky....
