Unhappy Memories: RAM

I just tried this crucial RAM in the 1000 and it did NOT work -

it failed the MPC1000 memory test, on the fourth pass, and was not properly recognized. Of course it coud be a bad stick, or the wrong type, but I know MPC3000 has tried some which didn't work too... not looking good

Maybe Akai have us by the short and curlies on their proprietory RAM after all - dammit, thats money I don't wanna give them

anyone else had a better result?

maybe the speed of 133mhz is not correct, maybe 100mhz could work?

i am also very curious if it is possible the use cheap memory...

So the labtop memory doesn't work? DAMN that means we all might have to buy the upgrade for $110 off the internet sites. Hopefully the GC has a better deal for the 1k upgrade RAM! Maybe it take the PC 100 I think u tried the PC 133! Holla back and let us know what real Thanks!

PC133 is typically backwards compatible with PC100 when it comes to SODIMM. However, it may not be compatible with a system requiring EDO memory.

It may require something like:
128MB 16MX64 EDO SODIMM 144-pin Non-Parity 60

Think 1998, seriously.

here must be somewhere that sells elderly used RAM I guess?

I spoke to Akai product support last night. (USA)
I asked them what kind of flash ram to use he said BestBuy has 128 cards by Fuji on sale now for 39.00 with a 29.00 rebate. he said to use type 2 cards.

as for the mem, he strongly suggested to use the akai stick of 128. he said that the memory is supported by akai and if anything goes wrong its on them. He said there are sticks out there but they are far and few between. I asked him for specifics but had none.

He also said that you can but them from their products dept.
Just call them up and order. I don't remember the #, its on the US website under support. Better believe I will order mine today.

Actually, I think the bus and memory operate at 66 MHz.

mmm, maybe I will try the crucial PC66 then - I think they will change it around for me until I get it right - good service...

Well, EDO SODIMM does not work.

Just waiting for a report on PC66.

I ordered it today - probably get it monday.

crucial are great - they are sending the replacement without billing me on the understanding that I'm sending the other one back for a refund

100Mhz does not work I tried a couple of 64MB Dimms yestarday...

So what cheap memory will work with the 1k? We're gonna have to buy the 128mb RAM from the internet stores for $110 ya'll DAMN? Get at cha boy and let me know what's real Thanks!

yo labworks, since you haven't really had much stripes on the mpc series yet, why dont you just rock with the memory you got and see if you need 128mb before you go and burn money and never break the 16mb barrier. besides you got a maxed out es, put your bigger samples in that for now. I had my mpc for a year and a half and I don't think I ever got close to maxing out my memory.

Even if the memory was compatible, 64 Mb will not work since I know the MPC will test for and only use 128 sticks.
