who actually owns the box.. im sure quite a few at this point.. i just wanna differentiate between those complaining about something they havent bought yet, and those who are legitimate owners with real questions and not bickering.. whos down?

Ive been trying to figure this out myself!

Now you know one of the reasons I asked for photos. It seems like every new thing these days is given a bad reputation by those who don't own it.

I own one and I like it. I am not a power MPC user, but so far seems to be meeting all of my needs...

It's very difficult to distinguish informed comment from random speculation here... Would anyone who actually has a machine or even somebody from Akai comment on the reports of crashes / unreliability.

If the reports are credible but they're just software that's less of a concern - as I'm assuming that they will tend to be in less mainline function and that Akai will incrementally fix problems via OS upgrades. Is that a reasonable expectation? But if they are hardware (or as someone suggested heat dissipation) then that would imply that crashes would be random and/or that Akai would have to do a hardware rev?

I own one, have done since about the 10th of the month. Be more than happy to send someone a picture if they'd host it and stick it on here. And I certainly aint complaining, I think it's the mutt's proverbials.

I Own i like !! quite simple.
A couple of crashes when editing samples but this is Akai.
OS 2 or 1.2 should sort this. Apart from that its great and i would consider it better than the 200xl

i got mine on friday from M-Corps UK.

i got two demo's on this lil baby unit...and i loved it on the second demo the most...as i had more time to use it, etc, etc.

the 2000xl cannot compete...period.

the 1000 is superior for its overall:

ease of use

Bigger screen...much better (i have used a 2000xl in our studio, which is now buggered, and the screen on the 2000 is ****).

small and light - easy to put on your laps.

headphone at the front...much better (wire being at the front and not hidden at the back...stretching it around the unit...its a right pain).

FX - are Wicked, Wicked, and Wicked.

4 Assignable out as standard.

Digital In and Out Standard.

Better sequence timing on a 2 bar beat on 1/16th quan, compared to the 2000 xl using same trimed samples samples and sequence track.

lovely sound...very clean but in no way transparent!!! Put it through a DBX or a SSl proccessing rack and you will be fine.

nice 'smaller' Pads which actually work all around on mine...as apposed to the 4 'Corners' on the other ones that never do any thing.

more Memory = 128mb ram.

16 mb as standard...NOT 2mb.

Compact Flash...much quicker with my MAC OSX 10.2...works fine.

a Quality 'beat making' work horse.

and i shall produce my next Rishi remix with this baby...

.....but I don't know how to use it. I'm currently studyin' something else that is takin' up all of my free time. This is my first piece of equipment period. I'm sure I'll have lot's of fun with it in the coming weeks.

I own one! I purchased it because of its size and features. Where are you going to buy a sampler that:

sounds as great as this unit
with superb sounding effects
digital I/O
USB
128 Mb ram
future expansion capabilities

etc, etc ,etc....

For this price or even 300, 400 dollars more?

I was going to buy a Z4 but the MPC 1000 fits better in my lifestyle!
