noise in the mixdown MPC to Laptop

I am not sure if this is in the right forum...

I went to record from my MPC to the Laptop to master to CD and bam...

there is noise in my song. Do I have to buy a USB recording device like an MBox?

you only hear it during the silence and fade outs...

Please help...

this always happens when recording from the line in of a computer, get a better sound card or get a USB recording device like you said. I recomend the Lexicon Omega.

If you cant afford one, just resample the mixdown on your MPC, by recording the main outs and then savving the mixdown. just transfer that mixdown via USB and there you have it.

Getting a real sound card is always a good idea (since most built-in audio hardware is pretty sucky), but it's possible that you may be able to improve your computer's output sound into the MPC by using a 3 to 2 prong adapter on the computer's AC power plug. There's more than one person on here who's had ground loop problems between the MPC and 3 pronged AC computer power connections. This will cause a bunch of extra computer processing noise to leak into the audio. Lifting the ground lug with one of those cheap adapters can make an almost night and day difference if this is the case.

I hope it is a ground loop issue... I will try recording with just the batter to see if it is... since the AC will be unplugged...

I really do need to get a hold of a better sound recording device, though...

Just re-recorded my song down to the PC and well, the noise is still there, but not nearly as bad as it was recorded on the laptop.

This tells me that this Dell Laptop is not very good for recording audio.

I can't wait to get my Mbox2...

No, they aren't. Only MACs, IBMs and probably the "custom audio"-type PCs (such as Music XP) have halfway usable onboard audio. The rest is pretty much cheapo junk.

MOST DEFENITELY if your recording on a laptop, have it unplugged. youll get far less noise than it would plugged in, as you have noticed.

Buy better soundcard. Onboard soundcards aren't good at all, it is impossible to record good quality sound with those.
If two in/two out (stereo in, stereo out) is enough, m-audio 2496 (internal, pci) or m-audiophile usb (external, usb) is pretty good choice for price.

yes... I figured as much since the 'top would be disconnected from the wall.

I am hoping to get the MBox just because it will come with Pro Tools LE...
