getting the tempo of a sample

okay still learning this thingbut i was wondering is there anyway to get or view the tempo of a sample or pharse sample in correspondence to the acutual amount of bars in ur sequence. i saw a video on you tube where the guy had a 2500 but he did something and it showed him how his sample matched his seq in bpm's. i might be wrong but can someone point ne in the right direction because im having a hard time matching loops,samples, and pharses to the tempo. when i do it always gets truncated i can make a Perfect chop or loop but can't get it in a sequence please help. OH YEAH i know lampdiggydog PRACTICE!!!!!and i do everyday.....

I have that problem too. One way I've gotten around that is by using Acid Pro and chopping the samples up through that program. Their auto-chop function will actually calculate the tempo for you, and you can just write it down and use it on the mpc. The tap tempo function on the machine works too, but sometimes not always accurate.

first, make sure your loop is loops good from start to end point(do this with loop mode on in trim mode).

I then assign my loop to my program and make the tempo(for hiphop) to the BPM i want.. mostly around 90 BPM. Then i just tune my sample up or down to match to the bpm and try a bit moving around with the bpm values to get the right tempo that sounds right to me..

you can also trim your loop on your computer and if you have a 2 bar loop(for hiphop it would be around 5.xx seconds).. then you make the following calculation > 480 : (loop seconds) = BPM
If you would have a 4 bar loop you would use 960 instead of 480

So for instance if your loop is 5.333333333 your BPM would be 90.

Page 57 of the manual explains how to detect the tempo of a sample, using the MPC.

You need to set the start and end points in the TRIM screen so the sample is 1 bar long. (Use the loop screen to help you do this).

Then in the TIMESTRETCH window press f2 [tempo]
Pressing DO IT will then take you back to the T/S window where the tempo of the sample will be displayed.
