i reckon its easier chopping in the mpc. i used recycle and soundforge prior to chopping being a function available on the mpc 100 (just b4 os 2.1). seriously chopping within the mpc is far easier.
if my sample is on my pc, as opposed to vinyl, i record it into the mpc (its quicker than xferring via usb...just make sure u normalise the sample once in the mpc via trim mode). then make sure the sample is loopable thru editing it in the trim screen and making sure it loops smoothly. as long as ur sample is either one bar, 2 bars, 4 bars, etc. then when u click the slice function within the mpc, it should perfectly slice the sample into regions, without u having to edit things too much. once its sliced and turned into a new program, then u hav everything ready at ur pads.
on a pc, u need to trim in soundforge, or another such program, chop in recyle, then export ur chopped samples into the mpc, and then make them into a program. loooooooooong considering the mpc does all this in effectively one move. the only thing that i would recommend b4 ur sample gets into the mpc, is to treat on a wave editing based program (like soundforge). i.e get the eq right...if u r gonna make it into a bass, then do it b4 it gets in the mpc. u can even timestretch b4 it gets to the mpc...so once u hav the sample u just slice it and make it into a program (pretty much the equivalent of pressing 2 buttons). altho im far too lazy for that sorta thing. which is my beats sound like shite. hehe.
