What are some sick studio monitors?

I'm looking for some sick studio monitors in the 300 dollar price range. Anybody know of any? Cause my boy got some monitors but he never knows if his bass is too loud or low. So I wanna make sure I get some nice ones.

About $350 you can get a pair of Alesis M1's and I think that they sound great for the price. I just bought some for my studio and I think they sound real nice.

Alesis m1 mk2, pretty good for the price...monitor speakers are very subjective so you need to go and listen to them in the store with the kind of music you will be working with.

heya, heya..keep in mind, monitor speakers arent supposed to sound nice, theyre supposed to sound shitty, hence, if yor stuff sounds good in these shitty speakers, theyll sound good in a walkman or on the internet type thing. thats why you see all these cats using NS10s

ive been working on stuff through nice ass yamaha home stereo speakers and a receiver, and it makes all my beats sound good in the room, but as soon as i hear em elsewhere they sound all shitty.

i gotta sell something so i can cop so monitors.

Yep thats the problem!...monitor speakers try to have a very flat frequency response across a very large range...so you can really hear what is going on with your mix, home stereo speakers are often tailored to sound "good", by accenting certain frequency bands. So if you make your mix sound good on your monitor speakers, then in theory it should translate to whatever you play it on...walkman, home stereo, car stereo...etc, and sound good

The Behringer Truth's are not bad for the price. You can probably find them for about $250-$300 dollars.

I've decided to splurge a little, and just save up for some nicer ones. People keep telling me about the mystic Yamaha NS10's but I cant seem to find them anywhere because they were discontinued in 2000, I'm trying though, Ive tried ebay, if anyone knows of any other places, please let me know.

Nearfield monitor technology has improved a lot since the NS10 came out...better off with one of the new kind. Any of the ones mentioned here are heaps better than headphones or your home stereo...but it also depends on your ears.... not just your gear

I got a pair of Roland DS90 A's.. They are sick, sick, sick. Almost too sick, so you keep forgetting how shitty everything else sounds! ;)

I got a pair of active Samson resolve 6 1/2 monitors and they have 4 settings for your mids on the back and they sound excellent. I paid $269 at Sam Ash. Originally they were $299, but I talked them down. You can probably get them a little cheaper by now because I think they're coming out with then new models for 04'.
