my worst mistake

I was so hyped up about the mpc1000 that I traded my 2000 studio for it.
I got it home and was loving it untill I started sampling, I normalized sliced and trimmed a few samples assigned them to the pads good so far.
I started to work on some more of the same normalize slice etc. and the mpc1000 froze the first day? what the !!I.
Maybe I was supposed to let the machine get used to it's new home before working it but I wanted to see if this machine could do all it says . I have the yamaha motif es 6 and the proteus sound module with two extra chips.
So given the machine the benefit of the doubt I said let me do some midi tracking where I use the mpc1000 for the sequencer. I noticed that you cant name the tracks or select different midi programs unless you go to step edit and insert a program change, now if I want to change the sound selected I have to stop my flow and insert another program change.
Damn too much time, with the mpc 2000 all I had to do was turn the data wheel, to select a different sound from my Proteus or my motif and name the track instrument, so when I want to work on the track later I know what sound was used.
The mpc1000 does not have that option where you can name the track, just the program so it means more work trying to figure what sound was used if I load up a track ,I barely sample so go figure . This all took place Christmas eve so on Chrismas day Guitar Center was closed so I couldn't get my trusted mpc2000 back that day.The day after Christmas bright and early I went to G.C . and they told me they sold my mpc2000 for 1400 and they tried to give me a used XL with the effects board, no zip or 8 outs. I said okay you win some you lose some I'll buy another zip and the eight outs and be back up to normal . I got home and the damn thing kept freezing so I just got my money and left feeling like the biggest jerk in the world, I wanted to cry" damn look what you done did " However after realizing don't belive the hype of any new piece of gear. let others do the trial and error and Ill save some money. So the end result I have to spend a extra 600 dollars for something that I had, well at least this will be the mpc2000xl Happy New Years

Whoa, now that's eFF'd up! ! I couldn't see myself getting one before and the numerous complaints aren't making it any harder for me to stick to my guns. You know that old saying, "If it ain't broke,don't try to fix it!" My XL gone ride it out with me thick or thin. Hell the only reason I considered the 4000 was for the Midi ins and outs and the memory was a secondary liking. However I love my XL and we're still getting to know each other. Hell, sometimes we experience upsets to help us re align our focus. So get back on that baby and come back harder!!

yo, did you try to update the OS on the XL or the 2k?

I am one to wait on others experiences and research to see if it's something I really want. I wouldn't have went out and bought it trading in my oldy but goody 2kxl.. I'm sorry to hear that man. I hope you get back to where you were and be happy again.. You still got other gear to compensate so your not at a COMPLETE loss but losing an MPC is maybe like losing your favorite puppy outta the liter..

Yes I always update the operating systems ,there are some features that the 1000 just don't have and they happen to be features that I rely on, My mpc2000xl should arrive 1//7/04 I can't wait to get back working the mpc is the heart of my studio set up. The 1000 I should've bought for my son or lil brother to learn on

It could just be that I'm not following the process you are describing here, but you can change track names on the 1000 pretty easily. Just highlight the tr field and hit the WINDOW button. As for selecting different PGMs, you can do this with the data wheel (without stopping a sequence / going into Step Edit) just the same as on the 2000xl.

Yo meseratibeats you should have looked at da manual first to make sure the MPC 1000 couldn't perform these functions! Everything that your saying the MPC 1000 couldn't do or it was to hard to do....it can do very easily on da fly without stopping a sequence! To think about it MaAN u might have made a mistake playa! As far as freezin up on ya I don't think the U.S. batch is freezin up on peeps I think that's just the U.K. batch of MPC 1000 but I might be wrong! Freezin up on ya Oooh ya that's a problem! Even with da new OS for the MPC 1000 ya dats a problem playa!

Renaming tracks and SEQs is very easy if you RTFM...My 1000 works very well, but you must understand its' limitations before you buy it.

First off D-jaying is far from producing, I used to d.j in 1979 before you even knew what Hip Hop was and that's fact. A fool ? hardly !!

The reason why people come to these boards is to either learn or teach what they know about the equipment they have or had. The main issue with the mpc1000 was the machine froze on day one ,not good ,second I called akai and I read the lil cute manual that came with it and the tech told me in order to change the midi program you must insert a program change in step edit. Which I had no problem with, it just that I hardly sample and the program change he was telling me about must've been for people that want
to change programs that they made through sampling
I knew you could name the sequence it was the tracks that I was trying to name. Thanks to yall now I know it can be done. when I decide to give it another chance , later down the line after a few months of yall thoroughly testing it for me . I might get it and put it next to the blue faced 2000xl and tell people that come to my house it had a baby. I copped it too quick I probaly was one of the first n,yers to have actually had it 12/22/03 I was trying to change program sounds you know like from 1-128 not midi channels 1-16 Ive been producing for a minute not to say that I know it all
but I do know the difference between midi banks and midi programs and sound programs.
For all those that got it and enjoy good for you, I also downloaded the latest op and it still froze , so bottom line if it''s not working take it baaaack .My mpc2000 never froze on me and I had it since 97 -2003 with vers1.7

I never save up money for equipment if I see something that interests me I go and buy it cash in hand and that's money made from producing and my 9-5 so when you get paid for those parties that you d.j for, maybe you can be just like me and experiment with the latest technology. oh yeah I forgot to tell everybody I can't read I had my assistant read it for me and type this message

Here's your cookie as well as your MPC 1000 manual to re read. By the way I'm 24 and have been into hiphop since I copped special ed in 6 grade. So I might not be as knowledgeable as you in the sense of what hiphop I listened to growing up but i'd like to think I caught the best era of hiphop in the early and mid 90's. Get off your high horse homie. You didn't read the manual you made a mistake leave it at that before this board turns a mess.
