Let one track mute the other

First of all, hello everybody, first post here.

What I would like to find out, if it's possible, is how to let one track mute the other automatically. This way I could use the MPC just like my 808 with fills beneath the 808 tap button.

Let's say beat 1 is on track 1 and fill 1 is on track 2. Would it be possible to let track 2 mute track 1 automatically when you hit pad 2 in track mute mode?

if you set up all the samples that are used in track 2 to mute all the samples on track 1, i guess it's kinda possible.

But then I would have a problem if track 1 uses the same samples.
It looks like I'm looking for a non existing feature...

yeah i guess so, but there's workarounds. you could copy the pads to other pads, an have duplicate samples for the two tracks. it'll take a little experimenting i guess.

You could just hit both pads at the same time to mute one track and un-mute the other, no?

Seems logical to me on the track mute screen.

Different kind of workflow than the 808. Copy the sequence, then delete the track, remake the track with a different fill, rename the sequence "Fill 1", then chain them together in song mode.

I think this is the only option I have...

Muting samples by others will cut off the first one, this doesn't sound cool if you have a fading clap or so...
Using song mode will not give me the live feel an 808 does...

Well.... it didn't

What you've created is static, I want to be able to pop in the fill track at any time during playback.
When doing a live performance I use a looped sequence of let's say 8 bars. Suppose I want bar 7 & 8 filled with snares, next round I want bar 5 & 8 with snares, I guess I'm stuck to pressing the two tracks in track mute mode....

Thx anyway, stuff like that is always usefull!

then you'd have to resample your fill and put it on a new pad. But really, the MPC doesn't work like one of those cheap ass keyboards where you push the Fill 1 or Fill 2 button, its so much more than that man
