internal memory?

Ok, I just got my MPC 1000 in a few days ago and the original owner replaced the factory internal memory with some other sounds. I would really like to start back at square one with this thing so I would like to install the factory presets. I have downloaded them from akai's website but I cannot locate in the manual how to do this? I also did some searches here in the forums but could not find much here either. Can anyone help me with this.... even just to maybe point me to where I can find it in the manual?

Have you tried connecting the MPC to your PC via USB and transferring the factory sounds onto the memory card? It should be just a case of 'dragging' and 'dropping' the file.

Yes, I have put them on the memory card. I need to know how to put them in the internal memory.

I think you need to load them into the Ram on your machine (as if you were going to use them to make a beat) Then go to the SAVE screen and choose SAVE TO INTERNAL MEMORY
Then choose what you want to save (I think it gives you only two options > ALL PROGRAMS AND SAMPLES or ALL SEQUENCES AND SONGS ) then save those to the internal.

I'm not totally with it on the 1000 but hopefully that will steer you in the right direction till someone with more knowledge comes along.

when i had my 1000 i never saved anything to the internal memory. It just takes up space. You can load those same drums off your memory card. What ever works for you though

I was under the impression that the internal flash memory is totally different than the RAM in the machine? If that is the case then not storing any sounds in it would only make it wasted space. Am I completely confused on this matter? Do they ship the mpc 1000 with samples loaded in the RAM because if that is the case you would lose them anyways if you chose to do the 128 mb ram upgrade (which mine already has)?

Ram is alwys only temporary sorage space, if you switch the unit off its emptied.
Flash memory stores even with power off, the internal flash memory is not very big (dont ask me, i never used it) , so just get a cheap cf card and use that.

yeah i just turned off the autoload feature on the flash memory and got some big CF cards.

of course now i want some bigger ones.

Does the hard drive function the same as the cf cards... can you load samples from it into the machine just like the cards?

yup. first thing I did when I got my MPC is turn off the autoload function associated with the internal memory and wiped it clean. With a hard drive and CF cards, you will never, ever need to use the internal memory.

btw internal memory and the origional 16MB RAM that comes with your MPC are two separate things. and if you upgrade to the 128 mem it wont effect your internal flash memory at all. I'm not actually sure though what happens to the internal RAM when you upgrade to the 128, does anybody know what your MPC does with that RAM when you upgrade?

Thanks for your help! That is what I assumed but I was not 100% certain. Yeah, I will probably wipe mine clean soon because I may give the JJ os a run. I knew that the flash memory and RAM were different. Just a guess based on my knowledge of computers, nothing should happen to the flash memory after installing the memory upgrade. I assume that the internal flash memory is stored in a chip on the board that would not be affected by the ram upgrade. Does anyone know if this is right?

Yes, it's a separate thing. Not affected by the RAM.

how did you wipe out the internal memory? I turned off the autoload, but i didn't think you could erase the content. is there any benefit to erasing it, ie: faster processing?

Internal memory cannot be simply erased or deleted: it has to be overwritten with new or blank files with the save to internal option.

There is no advantage to doing this, other than never having to listen to the stupid Akai factory samples again (like when you have to do a default system reset...).
