Hi Guys,

I bought a second hand MPC 1000 yesterday for £250 in brilliant condition and i love it already. Only problem is i cant set the levels in the mixer page properly - i change the values and they just move around and dont stay at a set value. Ive looked in the manual thoroughly and fiddled around for ages but i cant fix the problem. I think this could be a problem with the data wheel sending messages when it shouldnt or something.

Im pretty knarked cos i just bought the thing! i got a three month guarantee though so i can take it back.

Has anyone else had the same problem with the mixer page? im hoping its a bug cos ill be gutted if i have to return it.

99% sure your sliders are broken. I had this same problem last year. the 1k lets you adjust levels and panning with the qlinks, so they probably are loose and need to be resoldered. this is why your levels are all over the place.

open up your machine and unscrew the qlink board. desolder and resolder the metal parts that hold in your sliders.

if this doesn't work then the sliders themselves might be broken. they'll probably run you 10 bucks or so from vst, otherwise you can send it in to them if you're uncomfortable with diy work.

cheers mate that sounds very very likely cos ive just been playin around with the q-links and they send random little messages all the time for filter automation etc.

Im pretty confident with soldering etc so ill have a look and see if i can resolder them back on. Is VST an american company or UK ?

How do i get to the qlink PCB board?

If i still get the same problems can i just desolder the q link board - would the mpc still work ? Im not that fussed about filter and amp automation to be honest you see.

Ill try and fix it myself but im tempted to take it back to the shop and try and make them pay for a repair. Im pretty p***ed of at the guys at the shop to be honest.

Thanks a lot for the fast response. Much appreciated

yeah im pretty sure its the q links now.

even when theres a brand new sequence and nothing's being played the mixer values are all over the place.

I hadnt used the q links much to be honest but when i tried them i noticed all sorts of funny stuff goin on - random messages etc.

I dissconnected the PCB and the problem has vanished so im gonna try re flowing the solder joints and cleaning the slider tracks. Pretty lame though. Its a good job im not to fussed about filter automation etc otherwise id be well p***ed off. Its also a good job the MPC works without the qlink board. still for what i payed for it (£100 more than the MPD 24 controller) im pretty happy.

cheers for the advice anyhow though.
