I am continuing this discussion from my other thread. I got my mpc black converter kit from VST on Monday. Here are some pics of my newly converted black mpc1k:

If you'll notice, the cursor buttons are still purple. I just ordered 4 white ones from mpcstuff.com. They'll be here in a few days and I'll swap 'em out. I think white buttons will look better than the purple ones with the overall theme.

If I remember correctly, I used some silicone adhesive that i was using to glue the pads for that. Go sparingly, so you don't have to clean up a mess.

I didn't glue the display lense to the housing. It was a very tight fit so I didn't see any need to glue it together.

I think I'm gonna install a hard drive next. :D

I had a canon digital camera that I spent 250 bucks on to have it so half of it was grey and the other half was black. I was amused, so I can't really knock you for wanting to customize your machine. It's all good pimpin'

looks good.
i did the same thing last year.
i took a fine permanent black marker to the blue and red slots on the knobs and sliders.
no more "hot and cold sink faucet" look on the knobs.
the only thing i left alone was the CF card faceplate.
i'm gonna paint it white to match the knobs sliders and buttons.
i'm not sure about the purple cursor buttons. i may end up changing them, but they don't look all that bad.
what i really need to do is upgrade the pads. but i'm not paying $200 to akai.
i'd rather give my money to nym.

I thought I read on here that you did that already? NYM's single sheet pad design looks like a winner to me. That's the route I will go if my pads ever go out. Plus, aren't the ones from Akai the same flawed individual pad design?

My CF card faceplate is black. I painted it myself. Yeah, the purple cursor buttons do look kinda cool to me now. But oh well, I got the white ones coming soon so I'm sure I'll be happy with those as well.

I havent had the chance to buy nym's pads yet. Too many bills to pay yet, unfortunately. But I'm still lookin' to get up some extra scratch from selling some gear that's been sitting around.
The only thing that's been keeping my defective pads working is the velostat that nym sent me a few months ago. It's merely a temporary fix compared to the new pad solution.

Akai's replacement pads that are currently available are the same cheap desisgn. But supposedly there will be a new type of replacement coming out that uses the tried and true technology of Interlink sensors and a single sheet of rubber, siimilar to all the other models.

In my "pad proposal" thread, i suggested it be priced no more than $125-$130 at the most.
$200 is seriously over-inflated... highway robbery!

a few days ago I talked to VST and they told me that akai will be coming out with a new pad design in the next three months. I told him about how clueless the akai reps sounded to me over the phone, and the information about the new pads supposedly came straight from the guy who is in charge of parts. they are supposed to be like the older models but he didn't specify whether or not they are being developed by interlink. from what I'm told, it's gonna be a 4 piece set, probably just a plug and play type shit.

don't know whether or not I'll personally buy them yet but I guess we'll all have to see when it comes out.

as for the custom painting, I was just wondering, I know that you are supposed to sand down the old paint off the faceplate first. but actually I have some buttons that I want to paint, do I have to do this here too? I dont really know sh1t about the custom painting deal and I'm just trying to do some of the buttons and the memory card slot. if anybody can tell me how I go about doing this, or if I don't have to at all, it would be appreciated.

I just dont understand why you would take the time to make it look the same as any other new 1000? why not get crazy with that siht and camo, or platinum or oldskool or something besides the norm?

Btw, distortedtekno... my buttons came in today. I ordered white, but man... they sent me some grey ones. Hell yeah!!! I really wanted grey ones in the first place, but their site only mentioned white ones. So I'm not complaining. I put the grey ones in today and I like 'em.

Did you know they also have the grey slider knobs too?

hey stan - ever considered to ask them: http://www.akai-pro.de/kontakt/index.html

try it at the support hotline - they can tell you - much the replacement kit costs - or at least the faceplate.
They can also provide you the product ID - with this you can hit your local dealer up, and he can order it for you, from them - because they don't sell directly!

maybe that helps
