Sampling

I want to hook up a CD player to my MPC 1000 but what is the best way to do so?
i tried rca connectors from the cd player to 1/4" on MPC but level was incredibaly low... even with gain all the way up?
can anyone help me>?

you could use the headphone socket on the cd player...if it dont have one then you will have to put it(cd player) through a mixer of some sort ..dj mixer or hifi amp and use the amp/mixer output or headphone socket or even stick the cd into a laptop or pc and then again headphone/line out ...should do the trick

but if the mpc1000 is hooked up to the computer you cant change the screen....

i hook a mini disc playing into my mpc by using a 3.5 mm to dual 1/4 mono y cable. i got it guitar center for like 7 bux

Your best bet is to spend $60 and get a little line mixer (spend more/less depending on what kind of quality you expect) but the low end behringers work okay. then just connect all ins/outs thru the mixer and forget about it.

I cant just go from the RCA outs on a CD player(boombox) to the RCA or 1/4" INS on the MPC?????
everytime ive done this i dont get a level and if i do it is too low to hear even with gain/ vol up

just spend 20 or 30 dollar on a older second hands cd player with spdif out and go digital into your mpc1000.

you def don't want to go from headphone out to mpc in. well, you can, but your quality will be no good. if you go out and get some sort of mixer you'll be much happier. you could use the reciever piece of a home entertainment system and just plug in the back ( most even come with a phono setting), this would boost your signal, while giving you more control. you could always chop your sample in your pc then send it to mpc via usb as a chopped wav. whats his name's right about finding another cd player w/ spdif too

similiar, but spdif is all digital, as opposed to analog... minimizing disturbance in audio transmission if used correctly.

Firstly, if you do as ridethefader suggested and get a cable with a headphone jack which splits into two mono 1/4" jacks you can still sample in stereo.

Secondly, the reason you aren't getting a level straight out of left and right outs on your cd player is because there is no pre amp to boost the signal.

That being said, you should probably get a mixer

yes, mixers are quite handy for making music. i recommend getting one.

if you look around, you'll be able to get a digital mixer with co-axial digital i/o pretty cheap.

You can't send recorded data "live" thru usb. only you can re-sample the song and send it as a wav file
