I have tracks that are muting and unmuting by themselves. I am assuming that the problem is caused by hitting the "Track Mute" button while the track is still recording in overdub mode... and somehow my track mutes and unmutes are saved to that track or something?

Anyway, at specific points in a sequence loop, tracks are muting and unmuting themselves. How do I get them to stop doing that, without erasing the actual music in the tracks.

Thanks!

OK, I figured out how to do it, so I will post if anyone else has the problem.

Go to Step Edit mode, select MUTE events at the top, and then just delete each one.

hey, i just had the same problem. I'm working with this four bar sequence. I had a four bar loop of strings on track one and a 2 bar loop on track 2 and hats, snare, kick, and low tom, on 3-6 respectively. when the low tom is triggered i realized the loops just drop out, or "mute." then they come back on bar one but drop at weird times. I called akai twice and they said it's the OS. i said that's BS. i upddated to 2.11 and called back with the same problem 10 minutes before they closed their customer support. This guy immediately knows it's related to POLYPHONY just like i initially suspected, but the other two jerk offs insisted something was corrupt with the OS or something. He suggested deleting any tracks that you're not using. even if there's "nothing" on the track when u play it solo, unless it says the word "unused" there is a chance there are some notes triggered anyway, like "ghost" notes. once you do this check your samples and see if they're all trimmed right. for me i had a kick recorded from my korg TR and it was just way too long. and when i hit it in 1/16 notes, you can see that it would overlap itself and use up polyphony. Also if you have a loop like i had a 4 or 2 bar, go to mode/program and then params and make sure the pads of those loops are in mono. after doiing all that, my sequence played perfect. they should really have a window or something displaying the polyphony being used. Rob at akai suggested that and said he made a note of it for a future update.
i didnt touch the step edit like you rhino, but i guess the source of my problem was different, hopefully this helps other peoples who need to learn the hard way to trim them samples right and pay attention to what's mono and poly.

this problem is virtually nonexistant in say the mpc 4000 as it has 64 notes of polyphony vs. the 1000's 32
