Connecting MIDI Keyboard to MPC

Sorry if this is posted somewhere already, i couldnt find it though. Can someone walk me through connecting my MIDI keyboard up to my MPC. I did what the manual told me to do, but i cant figure it out i guess. I have a Yamaha ypt-300 keyboard and a MPC 1000, and i have the midi cables obviously. Id appreciate it if someone walked me thru it. Thanks again.

i am having a similar problem!

i got my mpc1000 yesterday and can't work out how to get my midi keyboard (yammy dx100) to trigger an external sound module (mam freebass 383) in a "midi thru" manner.

i have made sure that the yammy's midi is on.

i have set the midi channel to 1 on the yammy, the mpc and the 383.

i have soft thru set to "as track"

i have all midi cables plugged in the correct way (i ain't new to midi)

but nowt.

i can trigger the 383 from the pads, but not the dx100.

this makes me want to cry bitter tears of rage, so any help would be appreciated.

sorry let me revise this....i have a KEYBOARD...not just a midi keyboard, an actual keyboard with sounds, its a Yamaha YPT-300.

BUT i followed this and couldn't fix my problem (hence my post).

ALSO!

i am using JJ os (4.70)

I also have the ypt 300

the setup is basic
out the mpc into ypt
out ypt into mpc

make sure on your MPC you change "drum" to MIDI
and select a channel 1A(if your using the A port
Audio ouput of the YPT to record in on the MPC
Make sure under the mixer option the input thru is ON(cant hear without that)

the book informs you about the clock I forget what its set to

Play around with the PC modes also differents configs with different PC modes.

What I cant figure out how to do on the YPT is change the channel to use different MIDI voices. If I record a guitar on track 1 then try to record a flute on track 2 the midi voice changes as soon as you change from guitar to flute on the recorded track.
I gave up on it on just record my ypt samples into the MPc do a trim if need be and make work.

If any knows how to change the channels for midi on a ypt-300 Keyboard

my issue was that i had two non-functioning midi cables. to quote harry hill: "what are the chances of that happening, eh?".

but i got everything working last night.

you dont need a mixer! And I dont think the ypt has a Multi Mode option

what kinda mixer is needed to do this...is any standard dj mixer/mixer work...also can anyone tell me does any keyboard able to play realtime as long as it has midi in/out as well as stero out?

any old mixer will do. And yes to the 2nd question too... you'll record midi notes to mpc and it'll trigger the sound module on your keyboard which will stereo out the sounds
