1st of all, thanks to everyone who has provided information on this product.

(Especialy nym)

it appears that the pads are the main issue with this machine. and obviously they are important.

some questions regarding the pads..stuff i was uncertain about even after browsing these boards. any help would be much apreciated.

1) has anyone tried using external midi drumpads with the 1000? if so, which ones would you say are nice? the akai mpd 16+24 look nice..(expensive tho)

2)is it a rumour or fact that the blue / black versions of the 1000 have a difference in pad quality/durability?

3)are the parts to replace/repair the pads -(if/when they fail)- obtainable in the uk? (i may stock up on parts now, as insurance for later in time)

4)is it possible that mpc1000s vary in Pad quality , depending on the date of release or geographical location of sale? i am naive as to the manufacture process. but has this pad problem been traced to a few faulty batches? perhaps the early releases? if they are all exported from japan - it may make the location of sale irrelevent. but then if they are assembled in different factories across the world some may have slight variations in components? sorry for the bad explanation here..

5)aside from the pads are there any other major flaws with this product ? there seems to be varying opinions on the differnt operating systems also which i will read more about.

Thanks for your time . look forward to hearing any responses

i really hate to have to point people in this direction, but there will be an Akai pad fix apparently made by interlink electronics priced at around 150 dollars available in july.

i don't think they deserve this extra business, but at least their prices have been driven down from 200.

however, if they are interlink electronics drum sensors, their specification will be better than anything that i could do myself.

sorry for the short post i'll talk more later but meanwhile i gotta go to work.

funny enough i mailed akai in holland about this and they just said that i have to purchase a new pad.. bad f!cking service.. i just said my warranty was gone(bought it used).. they apperently don't know a thing about this new pad fix stuff..

i just hope this could be self-installed and that you don't need to pay extra stuff for the installation(would be really cheap)

thanks for the fast replies nym and bees :)

its annoying but reassuring that akai are providing spares for their faulty equipment. but before i go buy a mpc1000 i would love to know this thing about the black/blue models pad deteriation - is this a myth or what?

aside from that (and the q about whether geographic location of sale making a differenec) my other questions are awnsererd, in this thread and the other i made. so i thank you all at this forum very much!

I have no direct knowledge about the discrepancy in colors, but from what I've read on the forums it is just a myth.
