Help! format not valid error on hard drive

i tried my new hard drive with my MPC 1000 and it said "format not valid".... i bought the toshiba 100 gb mk1032gax , 2.5 inch, 16mb cache like this forum recommended...
does anyone know what the problem could be? do i have to try a different OS on my MPC?-- how i might go about fixing this? any help would be very appreciated on this one.

Sorry if this seems like somewhat of a silly question... but you did format the HD after installing it, right?

i actually was trying to format it when it said "format not valid"
does anyone have a clue what this means & whether i need a particular OS to use the drive with my MPC?

What version of the OS are you using now? I believe prior to 2.10 the HD wouldn't work properly.

I would upgrade to the newest JJ anyway tho.

i'm using OS v2.10--you think upgrading the OS would make a difference?
