recording problem

so i am trying to record from my mpc onto my computer. I put the outputs into my microphone in on my computer. I then hit record on audacity and everything SOUNDS GREAT coming out of my computer speakers. Then when its done recording, i just hit play on audacity and it sounds like shit through my computer speakers. any suggestions?

"sounds like **** ..... is it distorting ? make sure you go into line in , not mic in on your computer. also check your input meters and make sure your not clipping the input.

i switched the plug to my line-in, then when i record through audacity it comes out my speakers but doesn't record anything when i try to play it back through my computer. I also switched the part of audacity up top where you go from microphone to line-in. Now it's just not recording anything...
