Hard Drive & HDM10 (hard drive adapter)

my CF Reader is missing pins, so of course you cannot save to a cf card. If I were to purchase a hard drive and HDM10 (hard drive adapter) I can bypass the whole CF issue right? I read on another post that in order for the mpc to recgonize the hard drive the CF drive needs to work.

might be kind of tricky updating os versions without a cf card ...i dont think you can boot the os upgrade files from the hd ( i could be wrong though)

i'm pretty sure that you are right - the HD can replace the CF altogether.
you can access it in the same way as you would the CF in your load/save
menus, and i think it even becomes default if no CF is inserted.

i'm not too sure about akai OS (probably won't be any upgrades for like 50
years anyway) but the JJ OS has the added feature of being a file you can
just load in the correct menu, rather than having to switch off the machine
and go through other process (the exact machinations off which currently
escape me).

so even JJ 3.06 (the free one) could help you out here... what OS are you
running now?

anyway, you should be sweet... and it's a hell of a lot easier than getting
the damn CF slot fixed!! (mine took 8 mths here in oz akai
ships parts here once every millenia.)

yeah ill probably end giving it a try since the adapter and hd is cheap.

Well, it is too late to help you, but in case anyone else is browsing this thread:

Get the HD from day one, and then use the memory card just as backup to the HD. Those cards aren't meant to get a lot of use. Put a card in, and leave it in, but if you need to exchange cards alot, the pins will eventually break.
