Questions for 1000 Owners

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time out to look over these questions.

How much did you pay for your 1000?
Did you buy it with the RAM maxed out, and if so how much did the extra RAM cost?
Does it come with a Compact Flash Card?
Can the sounds in the Flash ROM be permanently purged?

Do you have a MPC?

The 1k has a "format" option for the flash card
format the card and say good-by to the nasty Flash.

- Press the [MODE] key and then the [PAD 3] (LOAD).
- In the LOAD from field, press the [WINDOW] key.
- Select OFF in the Autoload field, and press the [F4] (CLOSE).
- Turn off the MPC1000 and then turn it on again.

I think optik415 might be referring to the 5mb of internal memory that the presets are stored on. If so, instructions on how to overwrite it can be found on page 84 of the pdf version of the manual (under the heading Saving the data to the internal flash memory). You can either leave it empty (by 'saving' nothing there) or fill it with your own choice of samples / PGMs or SEQs / songs.

Oh yeah, another question...

Is the 1000 fully compatible with Sequences and Programs made in a 2000XL?

MPC 4000 : seq. wav 100% (pgm: no compatible %)
MPC 3000: No compatible. 0%
Z4 Z8: wav data only 100%
S5/S 6000: wav data only 100%
S1000/2000/3000/3200: no compatible 0%

I read that the mpc1000 reads the programs for mpc2000/xl as far as pad assignment, parameters can't be read (filter, attack, decay, tuning, etc.), and the sounds in the program have to be wav, it doesn't read .snd format, if that helps anybody. Has anybody tried to read their 2000xl sequences and programs to see if they actually work?

This is not a problem since the MPC2000[XL] saves in SMF format, which most every sequencer, whether it is hardware or software, can read without problem.

I have reports that it loads programs that have WAV files without problem.

If so, whats the file limit?
Can CF Cards be partitioned in the 1000 like ZIP disks in the 2000XL?

holy sh*t, you should read some manuals or something. Do some internet searches. But anyway, i dont think you really buy the mpc1000 maxxed out. You buy the ram seperatly. If you can add, then add up the price of the mpc1000 and the memory and there is your total cost.

Or, I could post my questions in this forum. That's what's so wonderful about the internet. So many resources to choose from, wouldn't you agree?

the unit can take up to a 2GB CF
I have not put any huge files on the CF so I am not sure, but if I were to guess that unit will max out on file size before the CF will.
You can have folders, but I do not think you can have partitions...(not exactly sure here)
The RAM upgrade is about $110 and comes as a seperate piece that you must install, which is very easy...

What file limit on Zip disks? I have put over 3000 files on a single Zip disk.

Maybe you want to qualify this?
