screen on mpc went blank after update

so i just got my mpc 1000, and couple days after using it i realized that i had an old OS so i wanted to update, i go to the akai website and download the newest OS and i follow the instructions perfectly, so it starts updating and i think after it reboots the screen goes blank, now every time i turn it on the screen is blank..... any help? is it broken?

Try adjusting the contrast. Hold SHIFT and turn the data wheel.

If that doesn't work, try holding ERASE as you turn on the MPC
