MPC1000 Engine

I was messing with the Demo MPC1000 @ Guitar Center & I noticed that the MPC1000 has a different type of feel to it when creating tracks. It seems like the swing is kind of different from the MPC4000 & MPC2000XL, which I own both. Does anybody notice this on the MPC1000? To me, it seems like you can create an ubderground B-Boy type of track with the MPC1000.

than the 2000xl.


the 4000 has a tight sequencer...and i feel that the 1000 has followed the 4000's footsteps as appose to the 2000xl's.

But why would they design their latest MPC from the look of a machine 4 yearz old.

You dont see the new BMW looking like the ones from the 80's do you.

Uh, the pads and screen are on the left, controls on the right.

Looks to me like they followed the 60 or 3000 mostly in layout, like the blurb says.

To me, it seems like you can create an ubderground B-Boy type of track with the MPC1000.

Sorry, but a sequencer is a sequencer - you can create anything you want with it, with any 'swing' you desire - no MPC features any magical algorithm that creates specific styles of music for you. It's an urban myth that people still seem to believe.

I co-sign with MPC-Tutor on that one.

i was on the phone with akai yesterday discussing some weird 1k behavior.

towards the end of the conversation i asked him if the 1k had the same swing sound as a 2k and he said "oh yeah definitely"

YMMV...

and as far as a sequencer being like any other sequencer, in this case its not exactly true. before getting a 1k i was using DP to make my beats. you can do things to the feel in DP that simply are not possible on the mpc 1000. you can edit the ticks in triple digits so there is much finer control over note placement. that's 10x the resolution as far as note placement.

personally i think the 1k sounds a million times better, but as far as feel goes, a computer sequencer has much deeper control.

the MPC 1000 sounds much much thicker than computer based sequencers.

however i also use my well trusted Logic Audio Platinum 6 setup with the EXS24 soft sampler, Korg Triton, etc, and the fine tuning in Logic is by far the best in any software setup, better than the MPC 4000, DP, Pro Tools, pretty much anything.

Logic is famous for its midi capabilities, with 960ppqn.

also the events list the best thing for fine tuning.

you can move events finer than by ticks.

but overall the mpc has the hardware hands on feel.

so the combo of both works great.

Sure as far as the screen goes, but as far as actually delivering the goods as midi data it still has to come out at 96 ppqn. There is not any way around that. Triple digit ppqn is mostly marketing. We had dsicussed this extensively and cited several external resources and performed enough math to make your head swim to prove this in a previous thread.

Roopesh, I find it hard to believe that you actually use and understand all that gear well enough to come to that conclusion, but you still cannot figure how to edit a sequence in the MPC1000 to move a sample one tick.

i agree that akai usa may not know what they are talking about. they had no answers for any of the problems i have been experiencing, they quite possibly do not know anything about an mpc's swing.

as far as triple digits being used in DAW sequencing... mpc3000, you get serious props for being the person who runs this forum. i get a lot of help here on all things mpc related. you are obviously a smart person. i do not think you are suggesting that an app like DP or logic, which have the ability to place audio on a sample accurate level, does not have the resolution of an mpc. that would just be straight up foolish.

i love my 1k, even with its problems.. but come on

For the last time, this is NOT MPC3000's forum - this is my forum, run by MPC-Tutor and part of the MPC-Tutor.com network. MPC3000 runs the Akai Mailing list which has nothing to do with this site at all.
