I got an MPC1000 from eBay, and I have been following the instructions to try to update my OS without success.

I have copied the .bin file onto the drive which appears while I have the USB mode enabled. I tried cycling the power and holding "WINDOW" while I turned it on, but nothing seemed to happen...

I tried formatting the CF card so that it was blank and the .bin file was the only file on it, but holding down WINDOW still did nothing.

I don't know why my MPC won't update the OS, so I was wondering if maybe you need a certain revision of the OS before it became upgradable, or if I am just doing something wrong?

Can anybody help me? :?:

What OS version do you have currently on the MPC? You may be trying to install the same OS that's already on the MPC.

I have no idea what version the OS is - I suspect something very early. It doesn't display the version on the splash screen if that is any suggestion?

Just says "MPC1000 - 16 MB" or something...

Is there any way to find out the version number?

Has anyone had any problems updating an MPC1000? Are there such things as "locked" MPCs?

when you turn your mpc on, go to mode > load and select the CF card. there should be a file there that has the upgrade. Then just select the file and click 'do it'. that should update the OS

When I do this, I can see the file, but it doesn't have an icon next to it, suggesting that it doesn't know what type of file it is. When I press DO IT it does nothing.

I'm using the standard Akai 32meg CF card - any difference?

I have tried renaming from .bin to .BIN (if it was case sensitive), and still no luck.

??

This only works with the jj os.

When you power up the mpc while holding window, it should give you some text starting "MPC1000 BootBlock ..." and then search for newer OS versions, does it do that?

Thanks for the info - and no it doesn't do this...

Do I need a 3rd party CF card to be able to boot?

Should the file be in the root directory?

Should it be named anything specific?

Bingo! Got it

Turns out the WINDOW button is slightly dodgy, and so even tho I was holding it down, it wasn't making proper contact!

I held it on a weird angle and it worked :)

Thanks for the help, rinse + Lith + wook~
