mixer/amp needed for sampling cd/wav to get a loud signal?

I've read that when recording samples linear from vinyl the mixer/amp is necessary to boost the signal from the record player. Is this the same when recording a wav file via usb from a laptop? Will I get a weak, low volume out of my samples w/o one? I have a hartke bass amp if that would work somehow.

i may be wrong here but i dont think you can record audio to your mpc over the usb cable. if you can, that'd be sweet (i know my PODxt can do this). you wouldnt need an amp unless you were using the amp to color the sound (think mackie preamps, etc).

so, in short, if you can record over the usb line, it wouldnt require an amp. even if you recorded over a 1/8" to 1/4" instrument cable out of your soundcard and into the mpc, you wouldnt need an amp. that issue is specific to the phono line from a record player.

thanks badsign, thats good news. I confused some of the terminology, but what you said is what I meant. I'll be exporting the wav files into the mpc via usb, not recording. so I'm all set then just got to get a usb cable, thanks
