Time Stretching in an OS upgrade?

mpc1k has no time stretching right? can we hope to see this function appear with an OS upgrade?

I would not expect to see this. Timestretching is one huge chunk of code. Plus this is something that can be easily accomplished on the PC.

Need it? Buy the MPC2000XL. There is a reason it is more expensive.

I agree witm MPC3000.
On the mpc1000 there is a limitation in terms of the size of the OS. The ROM chip that is storing the OS has the size of few hundreds kb, and Timestretching takes a bit of code which also has to be stored somewhere.
I'm not saying that it will never be implemented. What I'm saying is that I would not expect it to be implemeted.

i spoke with an Akai Rep and he said it was in the works....if he was blowing smoke I dont know...i guess we'll see

As an engineer myself (ASIC designer)...regarding "code space is tiny"...memory comes in "Sweet spots"...meaning whatever everyone is buying, is the cheapest thing. And no body is buying KB memory parts. So I'd guarantee the Program FLASH of the MPC1000 is sitting in the internal FLASH. (you don't have a full 16MB of storage in there, do you?) So code space is not an issue. They probably have 2 megs or so for program space reserved. If you ever see a code release that says "back up any internal sounds before upgrade", you'll know that they blew this reserve. So I'm guessing they keep coming out with 2000xl features until they can end-of-life that product and make more money off the "cost-reduced" MPC1000...

May not be worth 2 cents, but it's worth something.

well, as far as i remember Akai doesnt have a big reputation for adding things to their OS'es that their Customers demand..

Actually you can be happy if they catch all bugs....

As people have mentioned in oher threads, the MPC1000 has been designed to be used in a computer environment, so concentrating on the sequencing functions means they have to lose some of the 'computer replacable' functions like timestretch and reverse - all of which can be done in a computer very quickly and easily.

If you don't have a computer, I really don't think an MPC1000 is the best MPC to buy - get an XL or 4000.
