I have an 80GB hard drive, and once I format the machine will show 76300MB. How do I get it to show the whole 80 gigs...oh yeah im running OS 2.1

i have a 100GB seagate installed that only shows 95372MB. i always assumed it was similar to buying a 2X4 at the hardware store thats actually only 1.5X3.5. besides that, i don't think i will ever fill up 95372MB.

1gb=1024mb 8)
you do the math, then take your hdd back and hit your dealer hard on his head for not explaining the tricks of the marketing divison to you. if he says it is the manufacturers fault, then say i want my money back and you can hit the manufacturer on his head with this useless piece of garbage you call a 80 gb harddisk...

i don't think i follow. i have done the math and i am well aware of the "tricks of the marketing division", they say 100GB and you only get 95GB. just like my anaolgy to purchasing a 2X4, you don't actually get what you pay for.

Once the disk is formatted it actually loses space. They advertise as 100gb but it'll only be "around" 100 gb.

You almost never get all the storage space stated. Just how it is. My HD is a 40 GB and it showed up somethin' like 37346 MB. So youre all good man. I doubt you'll fill all that up anytime soon anyway.

Enjoy!
