Hey

So i just sold my 2000xl, and im about to purchase the 1000.

I have about 500 bucks that i want to spend max, to upgrade my mpc1000. I was just wondering if someone could help me do so.

The upgrades id want is max sampling time, and a large card for it. I just had a couple questions, so i dont ruin it.

1. Where would i take my MPC for the max sample time upgrade?
2. What brand of cards work for the MPC?
3. Are there any other upgrades worth looking into?
4. How much would all this cost?

Please feel free to just give me a link to a thread, or elsewhere. I wont be offended.

Thanks again for all your help.

I'm not sure about the ram but since you will have left over money you should probably buy a hard drive. I know thats not what your looking for but its a good investment. Theres a sticky at the top.

For your RAM

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=26775

for your Hard Drive(only get a card if you plan on taking beats to another MPC or 2500)

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=40243

And if you got extra cash, you might wanna either cop some of Nym's pads or save your cash and wait for the Akai pad fix to come out.

Oh, and maybe a Hard Drive enclosure to backup and transfer large amounts if data to and from your Hard Drive. The MPC has a USB 1.1 port, the speed of 12 Mbits per second. An enclosure would give you the standard USB 2.0 with a speed of 480 Mbits per second. I think you get the pic. backing up your whole hard drive in 40 min or all day? they're cheap too. I copped mine for
$20.

Well, i have a portable harddrive. i think its 150 gigs. And the only output on it is a small USB female.

So can i plug the big part of the USB cord directly into the MPC to load sounds?

How would i go about doing that? Some sort of way to arrange the folders/file names or something?

Can't hook up Externals. It sucks! Gotta cop a internal. You can find like a 40 GB for like $50. I saw a couple 60GBs for $45 @ Fry's. Someone returned them but hey, its a price cut! You gotta buy an HDM-10 kit for it also. $25 from VST. That's where I got mine. That's the cheapest I've seen them go for.

to your usb hard drive question:

You cant use usb hard drives cause mpc1k is usb-slave not host, and usb hard drive is also a slave..

And you can easily upgrade ram yourself, there's good videos about that in youtube.
And when your upgrading your mpc make sure you cop that JJ-os!
