Today is the day

Hello,

Just wanted to quickly say that today is the day my MPC-1000 will arrive. It
's my first MPC and I'm making the switch from exclusively using Ableton Live since version 1.5

It's pretty exciting for me. I've always wanted one and hopefully, this will make me a little more productive. I plan on using it in a live setting and really look forward to many years of unconditional love!

I also wanted to say that this forum is as helpful as any forum I have ever seen. Music or non-music related. You guys really try and help each other out versus posting stupid rambling messgaes (a la Ableton forum.)

I know many will disagree with me but making music on a PC is nothing like learning a piece of hardware inside and out. You are gonna have a great time.

Get the JJ OS soon.... it makes a huge difference.

Yeah, I have been using a mac for years with Ableton and I still plan on using it in conjunction with the MPC. I just feel the human element definetly is lacking in a computer only studio setup. I don't own much hardware (outside of the MPC) but I have a macbook with Ableton and the Korg Legacy collection and a few other soft synths which I can't wait to sample!

I plan to create ambient techno or possibly even tech-house type stuff. I have always loved hip-hop (GangStarr, Del, Beatnuts, Tribe, De La, Black Star, so on and so forth) but I'm not going to be producing it. At least not conventionally; you never know though. A quick search for MPC videos on youtube sadly only shows people trying to produce styles close to Kanye West, Dre or Premier. While that stuff is great and all, it would be nice to see some MPC videos creating different styles of music. Oh well. Not too important I guess.

As far as the JJ, yeah, I plan on installing it as soon as I get the MPC home. Version 3.07 (free). I thought at first I'd wait but why bother, right?

you definitely aren't missing much by skipping out on the AKAI OS - JJ is the way to go. I would recommend you get the full version though - it's only 30 bucks and it will be some of the best $30 you've ever spent

seriously. I went the first 2 weeks on the AKAI os...what a waste of time. Start with JJ and you will be happy! Congrats and welcome!

youll notice in how much easier it is to use... a couple of things are different, chopping and stuff, nothing major but damn does it make a difference

Yeah, I upgraded it. Weird, it took afew times for it to "take". ANyways, I noticed the difference right away. These guys (JJ) really know what they are doing!

Just being able to kkep my usb cable in while I'm working is cool. I haven't had too much time to dig into the MPC, (I spent only about five hours with it) but I immediately realized how much more intuitive this JJ os is after looking at the Akai os for the first couple of hours. You can actually see what you are doing for starters!

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to have some more fun tonight. I already started a sequence after importing some samples into the MPC and it's sounding nice and dubby already!
