Newbie filtering question...

so i have i chopped up the main sample recorded it. im kinda feelin it, but it would sound better with some bass. i create a new program with the same sample and same chops and i filter every pad (is there a quicker way to do this shit?) then when i play it back, i dont get that bass sound... it just sounds like a distorted version of the sample i already have even if i change the high pass from 100 to like 10.

is there another way to filter and get a more bass sound or do i have to get some bass samples?

yo, i already tried that... i put the low pass all the way down to like 10... then i put another low pass on the second filter to make it stronger and still nothin...

is it possible that some samples just dont have much bass in them, so filtering doesnt really do much?

or after i put a low pass on the chops is there something else i need to do.

im just curious, cuz i hear dudes on youtube that filter their shiz and that stuff sounds exactly like a normal bass.

I'm trying to figure out if you are trying to 1. boost the bass of the sample so it sounds more meatier or 2. add a bassline to the beat using the sample as the base.

u definately need the bass in the sample to start with, nearly all filters are 'subtractive' ie: they dont add anything,they just take out what u dont want,

so layer a bass frequency over the 'punch' of a kik say, or bass notes 'pluck' or whatever, maybe a lowpass at 10-15, over a double bass, or sine wave sample- but any distortion u may hear, could be cos u need to set the attenuation ('ATT') of the filter a little lower.

sometimes it works just lowering the 'key' an octave of the original sample to get lower frequencies out of the sample, filter the higher sh*t out with a lowpass (LP2, or LP2+LINK), then u have lower tones available.

do this:
lay out all your chops in one program in the order you want them and apply the filter you want to them. then do it again in the same program, but this second set of samples will be lowpassed.
then go to the second pad mode, don't remember which pad it was, and turn on the "simult" on the pads first set of samples and assign the first chop pads to trigger the pad with their lowpassed brother.

this might help on the punch issue.

and lithion, im tryin to get a bassline out of the sample. i guess now it sounds kinda stupid to think imma get a bass out of a sample that didnt have any bass to begin with, but thats how i thought people made basslines without keyboards or w/e.

what would you recomend for just a generic bass sound with different notes? i thought about usin a kick drum and time strechin it so the sound lasts longer than .1 second, but that only gets me one note?

if you have a mixer... assign the bass sample to one of the 4 outs... adjust the eq low and boost up to desired effect... after that then its all up to tracking and mastering...



cuz when you throw filters they have a tendency to kill the sound quality...


also try resampling with filters and normalizing the new bass sample...

If you read the manual you would know! go to program, hit f2. Change it to low pass filter. Wow! Holy shit! That was **** easy!
