Got lucky on my new PADS

So back in march i bought a black MPC 1000 at guitar center, it came in and older looking blue box and had no memory card or power chord. My brother got one in summer and his came in a black box, had a memory card and the paint job was different - AND he paid the same price as i did.

My MPC1000 worked fine, but i was wondering why my brothers was different with a memory card, power chord, and more sexiness. Like i said it worked fine but its the principle of being told your item is new - when it turns out when i asked the manager, my mpc happened to be an out of box floor model. So i complained to the manager and told him i want a brand new mpc ordered last week - i just picked it up today. Little did i know the new MPCs are shipped with the new pads, i had no warranty and no recepit for an item i bought 6 months ago.

I feel bad for all the other mpc1000 buyers that got stuck with stiff pads, if u have a warranty or some kind of defect or mistake u can put on guitar center, bring it up to the manager and try to get them to order u a brand new one.

BTW anyone know if/when JJ is coming out with an OS that has a lower threshold to accomodate the new pads??

aha! another smoking gun! akai representatives are claiming that this is NOT the case, that new pads are only offered as a PAID UPGRADE to mpc1000s.

its confirmed, i didnt even have to open the case to know they were new, after 6 months of old pads i can tell new ones, also i have my brothers black mpc1000 with old pads right next to mine so its easy to tell, theres NO comparison.

Just called Guitar Center and complianed, they told me to bring it in to exchange it! We'll see what happens. I'll let you know. Thanx for the news Jay. Hues.

I've had it for 7 months. I told them that my pads are going dead in my best ditszy, "I don't know much about music machines" voice. I'm here right now. Lets see what they say.

Got turned down! Dang it! But I don't give up that easily. There's another Guitar Center close. I'm gonna hit them tomorrow.

P.S. I sent akai a nasty lil email. And I'm calling them as soon as their office opens in the morning. I'm feeling generous, I'm gonna give them a nice big juicy piece of my mind. They're gonna love it.

I've had my mpc since May of last year and currently under Guitar Center's extended one year warranty.My mpc is in the shop right now supposedly getting the new pads installed but it also has alot of other problems.It won't even turn on.I hope they just replace it with a new one.

damn, Whats Akai's standard warranty???

My machine is about 6 months old. I got my receipt and everything just cant find the warranty sheet. Wondering if its still under warranty or not??

I think everyone of us who has the old pads should write nasty emails, and make a few phone calls. Maybe we can shake Akai up a bit!!

We should. Every single 1 of us. Even people with no pad problems. Cause eventually you will! Lets get it crackin'! I'm talking to my lawyer homie who is a musician also. So he'll feel our pain.

whats teh complaint e-mail. MY MPC is second hand and pads are fine, but hell if enough of us complain free pads for all haha

Already sent my complaint to Akai UK.
Received a phonecall yesterday from them.
I am waiting on another phonecall today.
Also got the store I bought the MPC-1000 from involved now.
Think I might have stirred up a hornets nest!

I've had both a blue MPC 1000 and a black one, they both had, and have, bad pads.

But what about Nym's Pad Fix? From what I know about it it easily seems like the best solution. And a generous one at that. But is this still an option, Nym? I've tried to PM you about it a couple of times but so far to no avail.

If you don't do it any more, can you give some advice about where else one could turn to assemble a set on one's own?

Or wait is there a thread here I should be reading instead of asking you about the pad fix? If so I apologize for ignorance.

But as I understand it your pad fix included a solid sheet of rubber pads, as other MPCs are designed with. Where did you, or where can one, get a hold of this?
