Hi

Please help me... I connected and setup the midi on my mpc 1000 with a roland fantomx6 keyboard. I made the mpc 1000 the master and my main seqencer using the sounds from the fantom keyboard. but here is the problem... i am able to record a sound to an mpc track from the keyboard but as soon as i go to a new track on my mpc 1000 to record a differnt sound from the fantom. the sound that i recorded previously changes to the current sound of the new track. so basically i am only able to record the current sound from the fantom keyboard to mutiple tracks on the mpc 1000. i need to know the proper way to setup and use the midi so i can record different sounds for each track on my mpc 1000

please help me

sounds like you need to do some reading up on MIDI, MIDI channels, and Timbres. As well as reading your Fantom manual.

If the Fantom is multi-timbrel (which it probably is) then there will be a set number of timbres as well as a set polyphony. The timbres is how many different sounds you can play at once, while the polyphony is how many notes you can play at once.

Let's say that it has two timbres. Then you assign timbre 1 to midi channel 1 and timbre 2 to midi channel 2 on the Fantom. Then set your MPC midi track to channel 1 to record the sound of the first timbre, and channel 2 for the second.

If you have more than two timbres on the Fantom, then you can do this until you reach your limit. If you wan't to use more sounds passed the limit, then you will have to sample the audio output into the MPC.

Read up a bit on the things I mentioned and check your Fantom and MPC manual -- should explain things a lot.
