USB crashing my computer

OK I just got my MPC1000 (it's really neat) however this USB thing sucks - when I try to transfer samples from my Mac to the icon on my desk top the sh** crashes my computer - it just hangs - anyone else have this problem and if so what to do?

Would getting a cf card reader /writer and a new cf be the answer?

is it the cf card that came with the mpc? also which OS (mpc and mac) are you using?

the only time a card crashed my mac was this sandisk card i had for a day that was just busted. the others have been fine. this is on os 10.3.2

try backing up your work if you can, and format the card in the mpc.

also, make sure you're hooking up the mpc in the proper way. go to the USB page on the mpc, hit "USB" then connect the USB cable to the mpc. i always did it with the other end of the cable already connected to the mac.

when you want to disconnect, make sure the cf card icon is dragged off the desktop into the trash before unplugging the mpc.

It's the card that came with the MPC and I'm on OS 9.2

By getting a cf card reader, you will avoid direct connection between your MPC and your Mac, and therefore, your Mac shoudn't crash anymore. But first, you should try to play with the settings to get your direct connection working.

The reader / writer works but I still can't tranfer the new 1.03 OS without a computer crash and every once in a while a sample will freeze it up - hmmmm, but anywayz, I give the mpc1000 a 9.5 rating -.5 for the cf issues but I have faith

to install the new os just plop it into the AUTOLOAD folder on the cf card. put the card in the mpc and boot up while holding down the window button

at what point does it crash?

It's the dragging and dropping from my computer desktop to the USB icon on the desktop - computer freeze up...I'm using a cf reader /writer now so I might be the Mac or the CF card -

I formatted the CF so no more autolaod folder but I can make another one

My suggestion for a future software update for the 1000: Let you leave the USB plugged in after you have finished transferring data between MPC and PC. Appart from anything else, the socket is going to wear out eventually...surely?

have you tried downloading the os again? if the file were corrupt from a bad downlaod it might crash when you try to xfer the file. especially if it is only happening to that one file.

I went out a bought a CF reader /writer, got the new OS on the MPC and that's chill but the computer still freezes up about every 20th sample - I'm going to take this up with Apple - thanks

dude, this sh*t happens all the time to me! I'm pretty sure its something wrong with our computer, but I really wouldn't know. I actually went out and got a CF reader/writer and it still crashes from time to time. whats the deal, anyone know?
