MPC 1000 and Protools- Alesis Micron connection Via MIDI.

How do I connect MPC 1000 and Protools so that I can record MIDI or control Reason Adapted. I know this question is basic but I suck at MIDI.
Can anyone help. Also can anyone help me configure my MPC 1000 and
Alesis Micron through MIDI. Do I need a mixder i.e (Mackie). Thanks for the help.
