Cubase sx slave to MPC

Hi all, Does anyone know how to connect your MPC to cubase and have cubase as the slave to keep the groove of the MPC. I have checked on varoius forums but none seems to be able to explain how this is done.

it works better with the mpc as the slave,your mpc will still play the same way,its only getting its clock info from the computer....

not a hundred percent on this but....


i don't think cubase can slave to midi clock.

if you upgrade to JJ it has MTC and cubase can definitely slave to that.

this is available on here, search it.

Depends what Cubase ur using. SX3 and C4 can slave to midi clock. im 100% on this because i use them.

Basicly Mini in 1 for your MPC, to midi out 1 of your Sound card/interface.

on mpc mode,pad9,F2,data wheel till you get 1 (Slave) at the top, then Mode: Midi clock below.

in Cubase, Devices, Device settings, midi, and make sure your output it visible and active

then, Transport, midi sync, i just use all midi inptuts under midi time code. set your destinations at the bottom, Most likly your Soundcard, and hilight "always send start message"

Done press play in cubase n ur mp will play too, When tracking out i give one bar of blank to make sure the time code is caught up.

I should not need to do this, i will have to test this theory because the main thing i want to keep is the swing the mpc has and not have the "electronic sounding quantize" becuase thats whats good about the MPC. All cubase does is tell the mpc to play. it does not make any changes in anyway

***Oh and i forgot a key Point*** Make sure you set the Tempo to the same as the MPC or it will mess up

cubase quantize settings do not affect the mpc playback

if you're recording the midi coming out of the mpc in cubase, then cubase quantise settings will affect the timing of your sequences. i think this was what sparq was getting at. if, however, you are just recording the audio coming from the mpc, then, sure, you can ignore the quantise setting in cubase.
