selling 2500 to get a 1000, crazy?

ive got my maxed out mpc2500 up on ebay and as soon as it sells im gonna get a beatup blue 1000 and get the new pads in it, im wondering what you guys think of that, very bad idea, good idea, crazy?

i need the portability (the 2500 is HUGE and stupid heavy) and to be honest i dont use more than 2 qlinks at a time.
i actually like the rectangular shape on the pads on the 1000 better becuase they are more suited for playing the pad with two alternating fingers, i was just always so bummed out about the bullsh|t pads on the 100, but im excided now that they fixed them

Who cares what we think your using it. If that's what you want to do then do it if you don't like sell it and get something else.

yeah, i just figured theres lots of 1000 users that would feel real good to know theres 2500 users swaping over to their machine

Save yourself the bread and downgrade!

if you need the money,and want to save some money for the 1000grand go for it. also you have great sampling capabilitys,but your playing in arrangement needs work.

you'd not be losing any software functionality.
only thing you'd lose is the additional outs...if you use those, you might miss them.
most people have a cd player, so i don't really include that in the 2500's feature list. kind of silly in this day and age to include one, especially one that costs something like 150 dollars from akai? come on...silly.

you might miss the tilt screen, too. i could imagine one getting very comfortable in a big sofa with a 2500 due to the tilt screen

you might have trouble getting the mpc1000's buttons into your muscle memory if you are very used to the 2500. the same is true the other way around. whenever i work on a 2500 i am sooo much slower because i actually have to look where everything is. it's like being given a keyboard where all the keys are in different places.

the thing is (in terms of comfort of workin on the 2500 with tiltscreen) is you really cant just move the machine itself around wherever you want and work on it, its kind of a piece of furnature.
so while being able to tilt the screen is great, im hoping that being able to have the 1000 in my lap or just wherever kicked back sampling will be worth it. the though of being able to tote around a latop for tracking, and an mpc1000 for live beats (i cant use the sequencer, as you can tell if you saw that video, i dont know why but i despise playing to click with the burning passion of a thousand suns)

btw has anyone though of using a prism ontop of the 1000 display as a "tiltmod"?

yeah, but then when you try to loop record it loops around all weird when your not expecting it and **** you know, its just the nature of all recording, i was the same way with guitar and protools and eveything, i just wanna do it like a live band has to, relying on your own natural timing, i always just run the mpc outputs right into the mbox and then into ableton live where i loop shit up and if i absolutly need to, know what i mean?
like i come from a live music background so i just cant wrap my head around playing to "the grid" unfortunatly, it would probly make thing alot easier, but on the other hand i kinda like having a nautral groove to it all, like listen to mf doom, in terms of live mpc playing his shit is almost always live and all sloppy but it kinda make it more fun to jam

turn off click, turn off TC, increase your number of bars to way longer than the piece you wanna play is or i guess you could just turn the tempo all the way down.
bang out whatevers in your head totally ignoring grids and tempos and just groove then cut it out and record it as a sample, go into the trim screen in pitch shift and use auto bpm detect to find the tempo.
then go back to the sequence you made at first, change the tempo and put the number of bars down, then add the rest.

i know what you're sayin about not really bein able to vibe with loops but this seems to work for me so far.
unfortunately havent been able to find a shorter/easier way yet.

also, you can turn loop off on the main screen.

i guess i just mean i actually kind of like when the tempo is constantly changing a bit.

like in almost any given "rock" song or piece of music that has a drummer playing with a band, the tempo at the end of the song is faster than the tempo at the beginning, and the sections of the songs (verse/bridge/chorus) usually changes a bit too

anyone have ideas for a mpc1000 display prism to tilt it to a more comfortable angle? ive been looking and not finding much, i found a place that might be able to make a custom one but i doubt it would be cheap
i was also wondering if a prism would mess the color of the display up or somthing too?

When you mentioned the prism idea, i thought it was interesting, and I searched briefly, and didn't seem to find much and I gave up. An interesting idea nonetheless....

I've been looking at both the 1k and 2,5k for an upgrade, and the only plus I can find with the 1k (apart from price) is that it is more portable. That's it.

Even for live work I would favor the 2,5k. It is far more ergonomic and has more functions up on the front panel.

But if portability is the key I would go for it.
