24 month extended warranty, pads, guitar center, etc.

alright so basically i've had the mpc1000 w/ shitty pads for almost a year now. when i originally bought it at guitar center i also shelled out an extra $120 bucks for the 24 month extended warranty. now after learning about the better pads i called up guitar center to ask them about the possibility of switching units, which they said i couldn't do.

anyone have a similar story or any kind of suggestions for me?

basically, they were dumb about the whole issue and said that ("it being over 30 days") the only thing i could do is sell them the unit for significantly less than i paid for it.

that's because the old black one was the MPC1000BK model, the ones with new pads is the MPC1000BKN

i used to work at gc....the only thing u can do is resell it or if ur still covered under the gc warrenty break it beyond repair and they have to replace it

take apart your mpc and disconnect the big white cable which link the pad pcb to the internals of the mpc. put it back together and boot up. your mpc pads will not register. take it to guitar center and claim your mpc doesn't work anymore.

or pour some water in it and then plug it in and turn it on

Have your son play with it while you are passed out in the other room. I guarantee that shit wont work when you turn it on. Just clean the spaghetti sauce fingerprints off first.

hahah seriously though you don't have to destroy the unit. just pop that cable. it could conceptually have come out on its own.

that sounds conceivable, but wouldn't they just send it to a qualified repair person (leaving me without an mpc for about a week) who would simply just take it apart and re-connect the cable?

unfortunately that's very possible, but i was hardpressed to think of a better way of doing it besides breaking your mpc.

you could just hit the pads until the pressure transducing rubber comes off the silicone adhesive, ie force the flaw...would be done by pushing the pad all the way down and then moving it nesw...

i suppose i could fry the circuitry or something so it doesn't even turn on, but even then there's only about a 33.3% chance of getting a unit with better pads rather than them somehow fixing the one i already have or giving me another faulty pad unit.

or, i could be a super angry customer and storm in there with my unit demanding them to replace it, which probably wouldn't work, or it would be a stretch.

man, i'm really not looking forward to dropping almost $200 bucks to fix a problem that wasn't even my fault.

if you paid for an extended warranty then they have to fix or replace it if it's broken.

so if you break it in a way that they can't prove you broke it (frying it) then they have to give you a new one. that's what the extended warranty is for.

if you just disconnect something they have the option of repairing it for you. if it is damaged irreparably then it most likely says in the terms of the extended warranty that they have to replace it.
